"Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny." - Mahatma Gandhi
The American Physical therapy Association (APTA) has a self reflection assessment that is available as a tool to guide therapist’s to align their core values with their role as Doctors.
During our clinical practice, we took this assessment at the end of our first rotation and again at the end of our second to see if our core values had changed. These were my results from each assessment.
Rotation 1: October 2024
Compassion/Caring
Accountability
Inclusion
Rotation 2: April 2025
Compassion/Caring
Accountability
Integrity
I believe that naturally I am an empathetic individual and I think that it is one of my greatest strengths in this profession. My goal is to care for my patients and I desire to see them have the bests outcomes. I constantly seek more knowledge which is in part the accountability of the profession. I will never know everything as there is always room for growth and I think that that is an important trait to have. In a hospital I think having integrity is important and standing up for what is best for the patients is a large part of our profession of person centered care. I will do my best to carry these values through my practice as a DPT.
